I use Americana Brand Acrylic Craft paint which states that it is nontoxic for painting. I am curious about using a stain which is also non toxic andsafe for childrens toys.

Mike is right about shellac.
So long as you don't start importing stains from Vietnam and China you should be fine .
Shellac is by far the safest although not really a stain as it is all natural .
Most stains after they cure are child safe.

I think most paint will say if its toxic or not so just get a non toxic paint thats it you'd be dead u could....

The paint is nontoxic and can be applied in your own garage, w/o any flash time between to wheel it paint it yourself with rattle can that's what I'm going to do if you run the paint sand it down and do....

It usually chips off in a day or so but recently stopped bc she just started putting her feet into her mouth .
