I'm not sure what you want to do with defining the "next" versions, it looks like you want to do metaclass programming, which you can't do in java, i.e I can't see how you can have the generic type system manage a succession of types determined at runtime... .

If I am not mistaken you can push up to 2GB of ram, upgrade the CPU to an Athlon 64 and put in another fast drive and... .
I still own and use many of those AMD RS482 machines with Xpress 200M GPU .
Those are not bad specs for the typical systems back then .
