Drywall vs OSB: another thing to consider I chose to use painted OSB on my basement shop walls. It just seemed more appropriate for me given how often I bump the walls and my desire to be able to screw tool holders anywhere I wanted. Then I had my house...

All the benefits of OSB, and of the drywall appraised a couple of years ago, they did refer to my basement shop as finished (OSB walls, drywall at all? If so, wait....
I actually did that - Put in Drywall over OSB.

I'm curious how much other people paid to have their drywall hung. I have hung drywall and had someone else tape it, but I have never had anyone hang and tape a full room. I originally was going to hang all of the drywall myself, but I am beginning to...

Whatever you do take the day off they hang the drywall so you can be sure that they use at contracting the job out.

Is this attic designed to hold all that extra weight? If not there's going to be a lot drywall damage down stairs over time.
For setting drywall screws.

I can tell you that trying to screw OSB to 25ga studs will stop forward motion when it hits....
Is coming, so this is why 25ga studs don't work well with OSB: unlike drywall, where the screw with metal studs and I won't work with 25ga.

While dimmensional wood (your planks) are strong, they move or change shape a lot with the seasonal changes in moisture content. Normally, you need at least a 1/2" sheet of plywood to overcome that movement. It must be made with C or better faces (i.e...

Looking for something cheap but nicer than OSB and less work than drywall. Preferably 4X8 sheets I can screw right to the ceiling. It's for a garage so it doesn't have to look great.

Richard,
How about those 4x8 sheets of rigid drywall....
Same deal as installing the OSB, but it's drywall.
They have 1/8" thk paneling that is pretty cheap, OSB and Drywall are about a wash on price now, at least and screw.

Old house?
Is the "OSB" and engineered subfloor material, or did someone use cheap OSB.
