Does anyone have any information regarding putting different octal power tubes in the OR50s? I was wondering if you could swap out for some 6L6s, KT66s, 5881s as long as you re-bias. Not that I currently have this amp nor would I prefer a different tube...

If the sockets are far.
Long as their pinout is the same and the amp's bias can be set correctly .

One of the reason I like teflon sockets instead of ceramic ones, it seems to have a slight damping the tube in a soft plastic socket doesn't do much and in some old mic amps and tape recorders I have seen the socket mounted on ....

Quicker than the alcohol, and that's another reason for flushing the socket after using the alcohol.

Jwood262@mchsi.com On really stubborn sockets you could try this: http://www.mcmaster.com/#abrasive-cords/it.A/id.2615/.f?sc=2&category=299 If the socket's gunky with WD40 varnish, etc, I preceed the GxL.
General Opinion Needed: As I am a tube-nube, I am interested in whether there is any general opinion about a "pretty side" of any particular vacuum tube. My musing arose as I was laying out PC mount sockets on a board layout and thought, "should pin 1...

I have the same taste mount sockets, I can't readily change the orientation like I could in a chassis-mount.
Tends to be more important in dictating which way round a socket should face.

I have several parts laying around and am wanting to build an amp for my recording studio's monitor system... I currently have a SE magnavox 8605 running it and it just isn't enough with the room i'm in. I am thinking of something in the 12+ wpc range...

Tubes are not a good for that purpose.
For studio monitor you need amplifier as transparent as possible .

I don't know why I did this, but when I punched the hole for my 12GN7A tube, I made it 1". I was at Keg's the other day and picked up a pair of 9 pin sockets which are WAY too small for that 1" hole. Does anyone know of a 9 pin sock that is 1"????
