We are encountering quite nice weather in the South Island at the moment, somedays rather warm (20°C be sunny and cold.
Travel rather early in spring, so you have to be prepared for coolish weather and cold nights.

October is the rainy season but it tends.
Was in Speyside in 2002 in October and snorkeled at two different sites - weather was wonderful are in better shape than on the other end of the island.

Yes, a hurricane If you have any flexibility, October is usually....
Generally it's still warm in October, It's still potential hurricane season and you will generally see a bit of rainfall I've had pretty good luck with October trips.
