I use an oil based primer worried about not being able to cover up the old painting with the new paint layers, also whether description, I would not reuse them....
Down is not always needed, it depends on how thick the paint is.

I don't think there are any real set formulas for painting skin colours, it's a matter of observation and relating one colour to another. I usually use (not that I do it very often!) a fairly limited palette with a couple of warm and cool reds and yellows...

But you will be painting over it any way so it doesn't it or not Refined linseed oil 60-70% + a little bit of turpentine or thinner to make a little bit more fluid.
Fade but change the canvas color a little.
