The general rule of thumb is, NEVER use onboard audio.

So you may have to install the various audio/midi related drivers the issue out more fully....
Solved it now, It was the onboard AUDIO card on the motherboard that made it crash! ASUS mother board are talking to the drivers differently.
It's been a long time since I last built a new system. Been out of the loop for too long and I'm curious to know how good the sound quality of onboard is these days? With Sandy Bridge being so energy efficient I'm thinking about building a low power media...

onboard (and PCI cards might I add) to be pretty crappy compared to a proper audio solution the front panel audio header I was thinking bottom dollar stuff like a Asrock H61M.

The chip onboard is likely to be seen for better information but surfing net i found these commands for info lspci -v | grep -i audio 01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation....

Onboard audio is terrible.
Amp died.
Any one else have lots of static noise when using onboard sound? Anyone have any suggestions about quietening it?! Its very anoying.

A good soundcard will reproduce higher and lower tones more accurately .
onboard audio and my soundcard when listening to music as can many others.
