I'm using this Asus P5QPL-VM EPU G41 Socket 775 DVI HDMI VGA 8 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard For my mythbuntu PC but it's a microatx board so may not be suitable .

What you need is an Mbox my friend.
It is certainly possible to run more than one sound card in a PC - I've seen it done (but not done these will be aimed at a professional sound/music audience so are likely to cost a pretty penny.

I don't know about "baked-in", but an on-board preamp will often make the bass sound brighter when, which make the pickup sound darker or warmer, depending on your outlook.
