I have some pages on my local machine, accessed via localhost, that are horribly slow to open/load using IE8, but very fast using Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari.
They used to load really quickly using IE7.
I produced a cut down page to test - to see...

Under Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings, is the box "Automatically detect proxy servers" checked?
If so, that does a DNS request to wpad.(domain search suffix) to discover proxy servers via their Auto Discovery Protocol... .

How to speed up Opera Mini? Does having too much bookmarks make Opera Mini slow? Is there any way to speed up my Opera Mini 5.1? My phone is Nokia c3 and when I use 6.1, 6.5 or 7, it hangs... So the stable version for my c3 is 5.1...

What do you mean it hangs? How many bookmarks do you have?
Opera Mini have been known to hang when it syncs your bookmarks.

Open while Opera is syncing, that might slow things down more.

Opera is not slow here.
Otherwise, try disabling any extensions ad-blockers, etc.
Turn it off.
Opera Turbo may be enabled — its slows down fast connections, but speeds up slow ones.

You are right, this older Opera version on my desktop...
Flash won't work, but at least it'll be smooth is buttery smooth - much smoother than any other browser .
Try to downgrade to Opera Mobile 11.5.3 or 11.5.2.

I have speed dial set as my start page. I've got 9 sites on Speed Dial. I don't use custom pics, although I do use a custom skin.
Every now and then when opening Opera, it 'freezes' at the Speed Dial tab for 3-7 secs before displaying all tabs/windows...

It's certainly an odd little quirk
I might install Opera 12 again and see if it's replicable there with the same sites etc.
I haven't experienced it myself, but perhaps the issue is with the image that Opera must call this.

Now I'm on big trouble: since something like 2 snapshots before the first RC, it's eating my CPU and rendering my computer somewhat slow, and itself gets totally unusable, SO MUCH...

Clearing cache helped me....
Have you tried starting over, moving away your ~/.opera directory? You should be able to keep your bookmarks and wand passwords eventually and problems.
Opera 10 final works quite well on my Ubuntu 9.04 systems.

I've been hearing all this hype about the Opera 9.X browser being so much better than PIE in every respect, so I finally tossed the latest beta on my X51V and gave it a spin.
Now I didn't expect it to compete with the browsing experience of my laptop ...
