Few months back I used Outlook 2007's and I liked the mail notification feature which displays new mail notifications in the right corner of the desktop and fade out after few seconds. But now using Outlook 2002(XP) and that feature is missing in it ....

This might roughly correspond to the FolderSwitch event in the Outlook....
Once the user pops outlook you get you atcive explorer and you can then add you tool bars a folder in Outlook, and then I try to recreate the toolbar.

I use Outlook 2007 at home as an IMAP client and RSS feed reader. I have a problem that when I close outlook, the window exits, but the process remains running. This prevents me from opening outlook again and on Win7 prevents rapid shutdown of my computer...

They may be doing housekeeping work when you exit, and the Outlook process lets them keep doing Outlook? Microsoft....
There was a known issues with Outlook 2007 exiting, however I can't find the exact knowledge base article....

It runs when Outlook exits, and has simple schedule support ("every N days").
