Banking question.. What is overdraft and what is overdraft protection?

It will pull from the linked account and you won't be charged the thirty-some dollar overdraft fees the overdraft protection is used, but it is much less than you would pay in overdraft fees.

I've just logged onto my Santander account and saw that they have taken £20 in overdraft fees this month, up from £10 last month. I haven't had any notification of the increase.
Can they do this?

It would be a dark dark day the Wail goes for interest only overdrafts....
