To new york with my passport in my maiden name - no problems, i think i took my marriage certificate passport does not run out for another 8 years so i have not changed it - it is still in my maiden name - you just need to ensure any flight....

It's just for sea travel, and wouldn't help, but again, you'd have to deal with... .
I feel much safer having a passport not forget about the option of a passport card.
At a non-US port, travel without a passport will not be possible.

Tips for Passport Rejection in NJ
This is a long story so the quick version is this: if you live in NJ and need your birth certificate urgently, do not use Vitalchek. Go to Trenton yourself. It is quicker and cheaper.
