There's no reason to make them pay their profit margins, and thus will do whatever they can to prevent free and easy access to any such cures.
The cure to the taxpayers at no cost makes perfect sense.
A very general question. Are use-patents for enzymes (and all mutations of the enzyme) ethical? Patents for delivery mechanisms, manufacturing processes etc make more sense but Im conflicted about use-patents of enzymes for specific conditions. I appreciate...

I think for many patent issues it's more of how much to the aids drug company, "lower your price or we'll break the patent and make it ourselves." The price the atom bomb.
But I don't know if the question is an ethics one .
