It seems like I’ve been saving for that far off dream of retirement forever ( actually I opened our first IRAs in 1983). Suddenly at age 59 I now realize that the finish line is in sight. I’m thinking that it might be nice to be mortgage...

Only small severance, if I don't find a job in 2 months I have to stop paying my mortgage. Anyone in a similar situation?? Any ideas to avoid foreclosure? Other then paying mortgage-I already said I can't after 2 months.

Here's my conundrum
I've just received a £5K windfall. I have £14,200 left to pay on my mortgage and I'm on a SVR of 4.49%. I have an ISA which pays 3% per annum. Where should I put the £5K? The ISA will give me £150 (tax free) per annum. Is it too simplistic...

You can then pay before the end of the....
Your annual saving will be the difference between the two rates if you pay off the mortgage i.e a couple of months/years off the mortgage term leaving you mortgage free earlier.

Pay off the mortgage, starting with watever has the highest rate.
Only invest what you can afford to lose.
Paying off the mortgage makes sense.

We couldn't afford the entire price of the house.
On which someone has carved "Take out a mortgage." I'd pay cash, it is much harder to get for paying a maximum amount down, to minimize the mortgage.
