I want to add payment methods to my site, such as MasterCard or Payoneer. I don't know where to start, can someone give me an entry point? Is there an API for this?

Obviously Paypal being one of them, does anyone have a list of payment methods that do not require a merchant account?
I dont want to use Paypal for a few reasons;
1. Its daylight robbery.
2. Anything ebay related I wont touch.
Any ideas?
