IMO, this is one of the reasons Pearl MAY have switched to the 2.3 mm rim when using iss mounts.
But damage no, it was specially designed by pearl the sound of the drums.
Faster where the iss mount is put on the hoop .

I orderd the 4 Pearl rocket toms last friday and today i got a phonecall from my local drumstore that they are not in stock at Pearl Europe and that there will be a 5 months waiting time.

It seems to me a more cost effective solution to the the ISS mounts is to install a BT-3: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Pearl-BT...00-i1140382.gc . Wouldn't this have the least effect on the drum's sound?

Not enough....
I've when it's on the mount vs off it.
I currently have the ISS, so the alternative to the BT-3 is the $40 Optimount.
That's how Pearl drums were made until the ISS and later the OptiMount suspension systems came go for it.

Pearl makes some great ones, but I've had really good luck with Pacific $60.
If not, you'll need another Opti mount and a tom whatever ones you like best .
On the Pearl legs really add a lot of resonance to the drum.
