Okay, so I've bought and sold this book twice in my homeschool years. I thought I'd give it one more whirl since MFW recommended it. However, I just don't like it. Any recommendations for a good substitute?

DWC is totally optional.
So that is one way to think about it for what to sub .

She just turned 8,and although I say she's a 2nd grader, probably more of a 1st grader. She has some learning lags .
Right now I use Explode the code with her- she's in book 2 1/2 and doing well with that.
I am wondering what else I can do at this age...

I feel like laying a solid groundwork in penmanship and spelling will help when the child is a few they are writing their own stuff.
Have been so concerned with grammar and English skills and more with penmanship, spelling, reading.

Great handwriting is a lost art and should come back have nice penmanship.
Contemporaries are quite jealous! They should be.

The bigger issue may be that writing is becoming a dying art, pushed my thoughts into....
That they discover and perpetuate penmanship.

Many here have recommended Getty and Dubay ( Write Now ) as a good guide to improving handwriting by switching to an italic style. This is a fine book, and readily available. However, I am a firm believer in looking at more than one guide, if at all possible...

It's called "The Art of Calligraphy" by David Harris.
I think I'm a bit of a lost cause as far as developing 'beautiful handwriting' is concerned...in fact I'm library.
