Your mobile device was never meant to run MSI files, that's the desktop's job .
I think this will solve your problem: Run that MSI file from your desktop while the HTC device is connected via ActiveSync .

So, this HTC site is supposed to have links to update the g1 dev phones (and I've used it before).

Apparently there were some licensing or legal issues with posting the images on HTC's site which, after over a month, haven't resulted in either a solution or an explanation being posted .

If you need to mail in a remote to OFA to have an upgrade added, you need to call first to tell them what codes you're looking for. They will then give you a tag number and tell you what address to mail the remote to. They do not charge for this service...
