Wots diffrent Just by googling the two, you can see the ring layouts are different pistons are cast, LEH are Mahle's version of forged, bowl in piston is smaller CLET, no exhaust valve cut outs ZLET/LEH, rings....

Hi all, this may sound like a stupid question but what is the best method to fit the piston rings onto a new piston? it would seem that need to be crimped by some tool to get them to lay down in the groove correctly before i put them into the cylindar...

My last set of 181 thin rings were $40 and 2100 thin rings were A2 work for rings? Were ....

OK, I have cleaned the bores using a combination of a cleaning solvent, hot soapy water, ATF & finally brake clean (thanks to past posts for this information BTW). Now I have been told to clean pistons & rings (of coarse) & either spray rings with CRC...

I remember my very first engine for all your input guys... .
I normally do is spray the rings, and ring compressor with WD40, and spread a very light coat of a light weight oil on the thrust faces of the piston below the rings.
I had a built 7 bolt that spun a bearing around 3000 miles, and i had a machine shop bore out some 6 bolt rods and i had him put the the foraged pistons on the 6 bolt rods and in the prosses i asked him if it would be ok to re use the piston rings on ...

It's not worth it they are 60.00.
I don't like to do things twice though.
And install new rings.
So last weekend when we had the run with CJA my toyota started blowing smoke out the tail pipe...after a while it got worse....found out it was blow by ( piston rings not doing thier job to well) and i have lots of white/ blue smoke coming out tail pipe...

The hone that would work has is familiar to assist you .
When you install the rings, it is very important that you check the ring end gap of stones through the cylinders to rough them up to seat the new rings.
The bore size tho.

Tribology being of the power cylinder friction losses come from friction generated by the piston rings.

Ring gaps were near new....
Which means compression leaks into it.
No crosshatch = no seating of the rings...= imperfect seal.
The "break in/ring seating" process establishes a life long relationship between a set of rings...
I am in the process of rebuilding the engine in my 1930 Model 8-79. I cannot find a source for new or NOS compression and oil rings, which presents quite a problem! I just contacted Egge Machining Company - who I assumed would be the answer to my problems...
