my @rocks; $....
You are redeclaring @rocks several times.
I think you need to declare my @rocks and then not use my any more when referring to $rocks[xxx into the (initially 0-sized) array.

In a cichlid tank If a thermocal is placed on the bottom of the tank and then rocks are stacked up on it follwed by sand substrate,,,wudnt it cause compaction issues beneath the thermocal even if i stir the sand during my water changes ?
