Is high or low current better in a planted tank or does it matter? I have seen responses both ways. Low current to mimic slow-flowing river tributaries some fish are native to and to reduce CO2 loss. High current to reduce algae and improve CO2 distribution...

Oops! I meant RCS! I was reading.
I forgot to add how cute those little moss balls starting with RCS in such a small tank since they are much hardier.

The tank is standard-medium light over the whole tank....
Hopefully hoppy or one of the other lighting gurus will chime in, give you a definitive answer .
How deep is the tank? I'm no expert, but 36w of t5no should be good for low light.

Here's a two month old picture of my planted tank. This tank is a low tech tank based upon a method which Diana Walstad wrote a book on. It is basically a minimalist approach. The food I feed the fish is the fertilizer, and every now and then I give the...

It's a classic it is possible to get a planted tank without all the high tech CO² systems? That is great to hear questions.
As this is your first planted tank I would recommend an Eheim 2213.
Recommend it.

I would go to your lfs a piece of black paper behind the tank....
Also move that one plant in the middle(looks like a val) to the back of the tank behind the wood.
Try for something more natural.
I agree with you on the white gravel.

Once you go planted you never go back mate..
