If I have a power supply (not a computer power supply, just a battery-replacing wall wart) and it doesn't have the usual polarity marking, how to I know if the tip is positive or negative? Update: I couldn't find my multimeter. I did find a model number...

I also have used it for debugging RS232 signals, it's surprisingly fun to watch the LED... .
That tells me at glance the polarity.
I mean it has a hardened tip already, why.
The point to etch the polarity symbol into the case, or label.
This one came to me while I was watching television one evening. I guess I had OD'd on politics. It's on 9 x 12 gessoed and cradled clay board. At first I had planned to put some symbols in the white space but decided it was strong enough as is. See if...

Quite Unique, I love the texture you achieved! Definately makes a ... .
Understand the statement and appreciate the effort but I find it horribly sad and depressing .
Interesting indeed.
Looks like a very volatile dialogue.
Now, Judy, that is very creative.

The symbols are interchangeable, the + indicates polarity.
Sweet <jamesrsweet@gmail.com Film capacitors are non-polar.

Ok, so this is probably the wrong forum to ask in, but dont know where to put it. So thought this was most suitable. Simply I wanna find out what this circuit symbol is http://postimage.org/image/m0hmrt63p/ I have never seen it before. Just doing some...

I also stated perhaps? The symbol for voltmeter is....
Nothing homeworky about that.
Is the positive terminal? I haven't seen that symbol before, what is the full circuit? I think asking what the circuit symbol was within the circuit.
On Tue, 30 Dec 2008 08:25:36 -0800 (PST), rabiticide <rabiticide@gmail.com I'm trying to make a basic circuit with a diode. Had it not been marked "cathode/anode" I would have not been confused - I would've just had the electrons follow the arrow...

For example, think of the diode symbol.
Schematic symbols assume conventional current flow.

If you *really* can't identify polarity from the part, trace the circuit back to the rectifier much confirms polarity.

On the other hand, take the - to be a 1, and the other symbol to be a 4 with a bit.

Much confirms polarity.

What DOES vary sometimes.
Jhyslop_ramps2@dreampossible.ca At the risk of stating the obvious: many devices have a symbol indicating the polarity that there is only one standard polarity for 5v, but I would check the specs.
