Another solution is to add a JavaSctipt WYSIWYG to your site .
Handling those marks is easily, you just need to replace them using regular expressions after submit .
I think you could create your own markup set if it will only have several members .

Whenever there's bad news, it seems that there's a run to post it first. Not only that, but we wind up with a half-dozen posts or more with the same news.
