The MVC Contrib project actually has examples of doing this .
What you have to do is set the Response.Filter property to a custom stream class that you implement .
It's tricky.

Figured out that it will not render as expected unless I render at 50%...it looks great when I do the footage on a new layer and use an adjustment layer to render the smooth skin on the person in the clip.

I would probably do this using rack middleware.
I think you need to make sure you call render_to_string first.
I've successfully used both render_to_string and render on the same request.
