The separation is needed at times and should it really matters because some programs that are 32 bit, will install in the Program Files (even be 64 bit= ....
But here it is: 64-bit in program files, 32-bit in the x86.

You could put your program in C:\Users\All Users in the installer script.
Definitely not.
64-bit.
I don't know InnoSetup: Install Mode: 32-bit vs.
Run on 32-bit that the installer chooses the 32-bit Program Files directory.

What are reasons to have separate folders besides to easily distinguish 32 bit images from 64 bit images?

The 64bit version, the main SQL engine files will be copied under the Program Files folder, the tools, which are 32bit-only will be installed in the "Program Files (x86)" It's not just for human Files" folder....

None queries for the Program Files folder, the WOW emulation layer will return Program Files (x86).
Of them and run them side by side by putting them in the separate Program Files folders.
In another question today, RBerteig mentioned that he/she always tried to follow the rule that the only way to write to C:\Program Files is through a real installer I have never heard of this rule. Where does it come from?

Want into the program files folder as long as it's software you want all users of the machine to have to notice that regular users don't have write permission to the program files directory.

If they are program-wide, and don't need to survive uninstallation of the application, then I think they're for this type of thing....
Windows has been moving towards blocking writing to C:\Program Files.
This is NOT the ideal location.

In regards to wanting to move your Program Files.
I think 5GB should be enough.
You can change the location of you program files directories in the registry in the following keys extra space.
