the first syllable.
However, when I was in England recently on a choir tour, our tour

In some German words ending in "en" it seems as though some people do
not pronounce the "en". Is there a grammatical rule for this or is it
something that is becoming/has become in vogue?

I've never heard anyone refer to a mexican 'jesus' as 'jeezus' eg:
pronounced like the christ dude--they always gotta try to
pronounce it in spanish (butchering it most of the time) and come
up with something like 'heyzeus' or similar pronunciation......
