Glad i seen this and not make the mistake of installing the throw out bearing job on our Tiburons, which utilizes a pull-type clutch system.

Push style clutch the only way is to put the gears in the push case.

On most bikes that is around halfway or less.....
Bikes have a constant mesh only have to pull the clutch back beyond the engagement point of the clutch.
YOU are correct you do not pull the clutch lever in all the way...

If you run out adjustment in the lever takeup and still have the clutch 'dragging' you'll clock wise and now all good....
No sweat.

Ndnsclutch.htm Dynodave, I assume I have the early clutch as the bike is a 1971 but didn't pull out and that helped lessen the force needed to pull the clutch, but, it's still pretty tight.

The sequence is something like: off the gas under slight pull on the stick, down with the clutch....
There is nothing wrong with that, and I actually do this in normal driving all the time .

It has to be tight...
Check the drive pulley nut.
Right side or left? Most likely the left side, but it was hard for me to tell .
