I dont see many laptops (or any in fact) with a dvorak keyboard. Is there a way to simulate the layout on a qwerty keyboard? perhaps with a driver or anything else? I use windows XP and Windows 7

It might take a few minutes to get it all programmed and ready to go, but you can remap keyboard....

I have found this a autohotkey to be a dupe of a stackoverflow question , which suggests you can use the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator to do it as well.
This is called "Dvorak - QWERTY command" on Mac, and it is useful.

Now I'm marginally....
It took 3 QWERTY.
Every day I spent 2-3 hours training for the keyboard.
That was by far the best and most painful decision .
No QWERTY, at all, until my Dvorak typing reaches my current QWERTY abilities.

Following this question I'd like to try and completely remove the Qwerty layout. However, the default tool that comes with Windows won't allow such change. I wonder if there is a lower-level way to achieve this. Thanks.

Simply click on any keyboard and as long as you have a secondary keyboard, you should see the option.

We use barcode scanners all over the place that emulate keyboard inputs.
Why would it matter? Depending on some special implementation of a keyboard is no good idea at all.

You can access these settings using & keyboard .
There should be a separate section of settings for the hardware keyboard.
