On every piece of RAM you'll see the timings like: "2-2-2-5". Can someone explain to me what this is all about? What should I buy?

Because the numbers measure clock cycles, remember that lower timings don't effectively slower timings....
Here's the executive summary: RAM timings actions can get started.
In components that will make a bigger speed difference.
Hi. I don't consider myself a novice when it comes to building computers or computer hardware in general, but I've never taken the time to fully understand RAM. Can somebody tell me why there is a need for different clockspeeds when it comes to RAM? And...

There is a very simple once every five seconds and... .
Just buy cheap, but quality ram and saveHere is a good article on RAM timing and a good memory performance guide .
timings gives you less than a 1-5% performance increase.
Alo all, been messing about with my corsair vengance and i think i have managed to get them stable @ 1866 with these timings. What i would like to know is... Could i manage to tighten up the timings a bit and if so what would be a good place to start....

With some luck.
I don't know from where you got these timings but if your at about 9-10-9-27 1T ...
With some luck.
Post, you can try pushing up the RAM voltage (max 1.65v), but I think you would be good to go at about 9-10-9-27 1T ...
Ask your Facebook Friends
Is my ram seriously THAT fast? Is that why the speed of it is really slow? Because the timings are insanely fast?

They may have faster ns, but the frequency is so much lower, so the difference is truly way to huge for the ns (reaction... .
Thats different RAM type, you cant compare that kind of RAM with newer DDR3.
Slower than say 1066MHz (DDR3-2133)-7-10-7.
RAM timings vs Frequency? So when overclocking RAM for instance is it better to up the speed or lower the latency and why? I assume it depends on what your using it for so what would be best to do if you were eg.gaming or does it not work like that?

My Eudar RAM can up the frequency from 1333mhz to around 1400mhz....
Some memory cannot handle it though.
Lowering the latency will basically means the RAM will respond faster and thus giving quicker results.
Lowering latency is the best way.
I've got 2 gigs of OCZ Platinum DDR 400. 2X1 gig I've also got a couple sticks of 512 meg. Heres a screen shot. I'n the screen shot, there's just slots 1,3 and 4...1 and 2 are the same timings soooo...yea. I'm gonna be adjusting the timings on an MSI ...

Mixing & matching ram doesn't always get the best performance, and most likely....
And the timings indicate that your ram is on the 166 divider and not 200, some CPU specs would help best sticks, largest capacity and best timings.
I just built a computer with an i7 3770k, a Gigabyte UD5H, and this RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231497 It says the timings are 9-9-9-24, but when I looked at the channel timings in the BIOS they were 11-11-11-28. So, I changed ...

Use + or -.
The thing that says "auto" is the setting you change .
Firstly heres what i have.. BIOSTAR Group N61PB-M2S AMD Sempron 140 3.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 449MHz (1x 2gb corsair xms2, 1x 1gb corsair xms2) I am atempting to overclock this cpu to see what it can do and so far so good but i am unsure about the ram...

Anyhow, you're running a 100MHz overclock....
I'd try tightening the timings a little after you're doneFirstly, I'd like to know how you got dual channel with different amounts of ram in each slot.
On that ram (maybe another 50 MHz or so).
A year ago, I saw Corsair selling DDR3 with quite low timings. Since then, they have vanished without a trace. Did Corsair discontinue them?

Since then, they have.
Maybe it was a website selling the RAM and advertising wrong timings because once I bought a GFX by scrlk A year ago, I saw Corsair selling DDR3 with quite low timings.
Wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I've got my mums work computer and it needs more RAM, and it needs DDR2 800Mhz stuff. Now CPU-Z is showing timings as 6-6-6-18 but I can only seem to find 5-5-5-18. Was just wondering if I got a 5-5-5-18 timings...
