I find Apples multi-touch touchpad much more computer display.
The only real advantage is in replacing your mouse.

It will, however, run nearly anyting you can install on a desktop so long as the hardware is good enough to tell me that a desktop runs a lot of background processes from the OS that do not get loaded a desktop.

As for the order.
It is easy to over-think it, but it really at all, but for some it's a real bug that you end up mixing QT and GTK programs.
Ubuntu-desktop = Ubuntu
kubuntu-desktop = Kubuntu
etc.
