Vendors charge more for 24 bit. Why choose 24 bits? I mean, I know in a sort of general theory, but I would like to hear from the community about which aspects of the sound are affected, from a subjective point of view.

Be 24bit as well? Conversely, if you record in 16bits, do the VI's have to be 16bit? Must they match? Conversely, if you record in 16bits, do the VI's have to be 16bit? Must they match?
No they don't have it ....

Bottom line, record companies are dumb.
Have spared the record companies the ever
so easy CD "ripping" process, having their material traded all over the
world.

You set.
Compression settings don't change because you are recording at 16bit as opposed to 24bit.

My MAudio 2496 control panel doesn't say anything about bit rate and when I record something I get a 32-bit wave.

I have a big job coming up where I need to record some LP records. They need to be saved in MP3 192 format with all tags intact. What is the best way to do this using Audacity? Step by step instructions would be great. I'm using puppy Linux 5.2.8.
Thanks...

Does this mean I have to redo all the LP's I exported to the 16bit format? Normally you want 44.1 kHz 16-bit PCM stereo WAVs.
Signed 16bit PCM instead of the recommended WAV 32 bit float format.
