Do you care whether the rectifier on your amp is tube or solid-state? Tell me why. I know very little about rectifiers other than they convert alternating current to direct current. Is there a reason to prefer tube rectifiers over solid-state versions...

I'm sure through a given amp....
To use a fair amount of treble, and the tube rectifier seems to take a little of the spikey attack Theoretically, a SS rectifier will last forever while a tube is, well, a tube, and wont.

I'm thinking of using two damper rectifier tubes in a voltage doubling configuration.
Any problem with that topology?
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

This is a full wave voltage doubler:
using tube dampers, i think you need 2 separate 6.3 volt clamped with a MOV in case the....
SS is much more pragmatic.
You may also be limited in capacitor size with tube rectifiers.
Or transformer.

TSE sounding extremely good, but some buzz from both speakers when B+ comes up - the buzz disappears completely after an hour or two playing. Filament noise?

I did in my 67 Vibrolux. I didn't think anything about it at the time either - I thought you could sub those at will. About two months later, I blew an NOS RCA 6L6 tube. That was strange - those are great tubes (and rare and expensive!). I then noticed...

Check out rectifier ....
It is possible to change rectifier tube type, but you always have to check voltages and biasing, maybe some the bias when changing a rectifier tube, your tubes will run colder in your case.

Hey guys!
Today I own a Peavey 6505+ rig.
A couple of days I got a taste of Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.
Thinking of maybe getting me one of these.
Which rig do you prefer, and which Rectifier if you prefer the Mesa?

Profiled some amps today. Among them we did a Triple Rectifier. Profiling a boosted amp gets kinda strange, but unboosted works and then just add a Tubescreamer stomp in the signal chain and your set. Anyway did this video just to show the difference ...

Great transactions: -Juggernaut-, Beergoblin, Boris the Blade, Guttermouth, Tubesteakfortone....
I think I'd probably be equally happy with either one, so I'd look for the better deal unless I was trying to match up the looks of the cab with a specific amp .

After I bought my 1968 CT-90 K0, I read about the limitations of the antiquated charging system, and how it was possible to boost the output by preforming something known as the "Radio Shack rectifier upgrade". After some research, it seemed pretty easy...

Also see rectifier output smoothing.
Since about 1950, a single the change in output voltage / current .
Such a bridge rectifier was always constructed from discrete components.
