Red oak should never be used outdoors, white oak is a great wood or not it had a type of silica....
Will the chair be inside or outside? A sanding sealer can take care of the porous feel of red oak if you want a glass finish.

Warrren White oak....
Wet the surface with paint thinner and its easy to tell the difference betweeen red and white oak.
I have found that red oak always has a pink or reddish tint and white oak has more of grey look.

I'm hearing that there may be a problem using epoxy to laminate oak. I'm building chair legs on a bending jig by laminating strips of red oak 1/16" x 1-1/2". I've not seen any problems, but want to know if I should anticipate a few.

Is the crack in the main trunk or is it a two stem tree? Make sure your saw is sharp and bigger is better if your droppin big stuff .

You may be able to get the color a lot closer, but the grain patterns on white oak and red oak white to ....
Cheaper than white and a whole raft of easier than changing is correct .

Dead standing Oaks of red ....
The old, dead standing Red Oak, even split, needs a couple of years to dry for firewood.
Some of it was green and some very old.

Red Oak is my favorite it’s 100 degrees.
The hardest work is done now.
Just some easy steady pressure from year to year.
