I was wondering if anyone has a stain or other finishng formula/technique that can be used on white oak so it looks like red oak. Thanks for any suggestions offered. Bob.

I just got gifted to me some red oak planks that are over 40 years old as cut so they should be stable.
Some are 3" x 4" x 12'. Others are 4" x 4" x 10'.
Wondering if anyone has made a neck out of this wood yet?

Are you wanting to use the oak because you have it, or because you like the look of it? If it's because you just happen to have it remember oak is pretty cheap compaired to other woods. But if you like it go for it.

If I remember correctly the acid in the wood was said to be able red oak....
Each sounds like a bass should, and I think red oak is just another nail red oak as it is very acidic.
Was in Douglas fir, Hemlock and pine.

I'm looking to build a large farmhouse table, 10'x4'. I found 1"x6"x10' red oak boards and am interested in using those with breadboard ends. Would 1" be thick enough? Would a tongue and groove joint be a good way to join them together to make it 4' wide...

I just glued the boards together for the apron, 2x4? the top was 3/4" red oak and then used 3/4" MDF underneath for added support, glued and srewed, has 6 legs made from....
