You could do some research on HTML or CSS and work from there, uploading your pre-written coding text files using your FTP. With practice you'll be able to customize almost every aspect of your website with ease.
Or if you'd rather not take up too much time and effort, use Dreamweaver like RudyHenkel said, or Frontpage. Still, I prefer the first way, so I understand more thoroughly what I'm doing.

Blogger is probably the easiest to learn and use. Wordpress, however, allows for the most customization.

How to call a variable from within the Threadbit template?
I would guess something is wrong with your template then. Try just putting "hello" in the template and see if you get that to print out.

Edited forum templates - how to get CMPS working with that too?
From what I can tell, it looks like you've added something to the navbar template that's calling a custom tempate called 'paddingswitch', but that's not being applied to the CMPS... Can you post the contents of your navbar template here?

Register upload with preview?
For the upload to work, registration must complete. So, you cannot apply both preview and upload-on-registration hacks at the same time.
