It could be tied to how much memory is allocated for video .
I know some Intel video sets have limited resolution capabilities.
Way to verify this unless it's in the release notes for the driver.

You already have a higher resolution (but not retina obviously) 15 inch.
These as extras that you pay more for.

I'll recheck tomorrow when i work.
I could not find any reference to 4K resolution or to 2K(1080P) resolution from the link provided LED IIRC from the notes given on it.
