Added tetra safestart when I added the new fish but two days later and my ammonia's at 1.0ppm. Two fish have already died and another is acting very erratic :'(

If you 3 days, therefore there is no ammonia poisoning? Strange how my fish were showing symptoms of ammonia poisoning though.
If you remove/lock up the ammonia, you remove all of the
food the bacteria require to live.
