Seeing the 'is downloading a torrent of software you own illegal' thread, it made me think about this. Anyone have any answers?

From what I read lately, ripping any DVDs is illegal.

When downloading movies on torrent websites, usually they come as 700mb video files and with the .avi extension.
In one single dvd I have 4~6 movies and they play very nice (with good quality) in my DVD player!
I've downloaded Handbrake and DVD43 . But...

Assuming the copyright laws in your country allow for backups, you can use DVD Shrink to backup DVDs/380702/five-best-dvd-ripping....

It's a little bit of work to set up out of the box, but ripping new DVDs and transferring them of the box, but ripping new DVDs and transferring them to the right folder on the NAS is pretty easy now, but ripping new....

If your doing RipIt to rip the movies off the dvd's, then you can set Handbrake up with the queue to run through solution currently out there for ripping....
Handbrake is the best for ENCODING movies, but not quite the best for ripping them.

Have access to another DVD drive? All of the DVDs were burned the exact same way on the exact same if it is a hardware problem or if it is something to do with the condition of the DVDs..

rip a dvd to 700mb avi file and let itunes rip it.
I used to use 'Fair use wizard'...
Copy protection does indeed mean that you can't copy them however some ripping software allows you to bypass this.
As avi's don't work.
