If the caps started out as yellow, adding in grey/black to make brown would make sense, but the caps started out as pure white, it shouldn't have turned brown .
Of RIT dye.

I was planning on using Rit Dye Dark Brown on them to get a more brownish/grey mixture.

I am wondering if this "pro" dye is any of the plastic ( at the atomic level) yo loosen and become more porous altering the dye to penetrate.
It's $18.00 for a pound of dye.
The Pro RIT from RIT's site.
