The Riu resorts seem to be upscale, which is what we are seeking. But, are any of them in Cancun kid friendly? Which ones seem to offer the most activities for kids and teens? Scott

I hope they're right! If it isn't fully open we will be put in the riu palace las Americas.
For the 5th of June, spoke to riu and Thomson and they said it will open 1st may 2012.

We like and entertainment is about the....
It's also newer.
The RIU Cancun is closer to outside the resort activities, the Riu Cancun is closer to bars and restaurants if that's important to you.
We liked them both in December.

We are at the RIU now....we are a little dissapointed. NO beach to walk on! Our "Deluxe Oceanview" room was one floor BELOW the 1st floor! We could not see anything! THey moved us the second day to the 4th floor.

The beach is wide, just not long.

The Hotel RIU Hotels & Resorts has announced that on the 4th of May it will be opening of its new resort RIU Palace Peninsula, in Cancun. This will be the sixth of the Palace resorts in Mexico and the second in Cancun.

Which hotel do you recommend? We are going at the end of July. It will be 5 of us. My husband and I, another couple and my mom. We are in our 40's, looking for some nightlife, good food and good drinks. Nice pool with a swim up bar.

The Riu Palace is also nice, huge pool area and huge sandy beach of the new Riu Palace Penisular....
I would consider the Iberostar Cancun (formerly the Hilton) huge pool in an open sunny area and not inviting or it was just the shade.

Making reservations for the a la cartw restraunts? I stayed at Riu Playacar a couple of years ago and was told that all the riu switched to Dos Equis (which is ok but not as good as corona) To make.
