For rubber bands, there are large enough movements that it may require more than the 10 aligners the rubber bands (one of the teeth that the retainer is attached to is right underneath the tooth.

Over time, the rubber bands dig into the foam...also if you leave them on too long the rubber....
I take them off.
I'd take the rubber bands off for storage.
That should protect the foam under the rubber bands.
