I've got my eyes set on my first 5k, but right now I'm only up to about 3k. Should I go ahead and enter or should I wait until I can run 5k in training?
I mean, isn't part of the fun to push yourself to a new limit during the race?
I assume marathon runners...

The farther the race, the more true this ....
Generally people to not have to be able to run the full race distance in one run to be able to complete the distance, maybe 2/3rd the distance.
Otherwise, yes, 5k is not very far.

It could be that it was always racing at high CPU load, but....
I would try just getting a new fan.
Update the BIOS on your motherboard if possible, it may simply be that there's an error in the code for controlling the fan depending on temperature .

I don't register for a ton of NYRR races since that advantage of waiting until the last minute to make sure we REALLY want to and can run the race closed out.
Body makes the decision not to run the race for me.

Plus taking as long as it is nice and easy, running is fine the day beofre a race.
To stay lose for the race.
