You will have too much compression.
That's with shallowI would not run either set with the 302 heads.
It can be done, I run 9.7 measured compression on 87 octane in my truck.

If you're not a strong bike handler, work on that too .

Try running dstat on the server while the ab process is running, see whether the disks are taking a massive hit better.
Some VPSes are notoriously bad for IOwait time, caused by contended access to the disk .
