I have posted here time and time again about my questionable future, but I've never been this unsure. As I've explained in my previous posts, I'm an 18 year old college sophomore (soon-to-be-junior) struggling to make a decision between nursing and medicine...

I would love to have a practice in a small town (aprox 10K people) and then be able to drive and do a clinic day a few times a week at all the other surrounding smaller towns. How many doctors do you need to sustain such a practice? Two of my attendings...

There is a huge shortage of family medicine docs especially in rural areas where been working rural....

It unless you are independently wealthy as I have been working rural medicine for the past 3 years.

I'm curious about the lack of a family medicine residencies for PAs. I'm personally interested in rural family practice and would think that, since that is one of the big goals of training PAs, there would be a residency that addresses family medicine...

In my opinion, and probably the opinion of many others on here....PA school IS your family medicine As a newish grad that went into rural FP solo at a sattelite clinic I would say that a residency would have or not managed at all for years....

I want to become a doctor as I truly love everything about medicine. I really want to help cure diseases, and help people. but i also really want money. Everyone tells me don't go into medicine for the money but I can't see myself doing anything else....

I do believe it's wrong to go into medicine as money being the sole motivator.
I don't think it's wrong to go into medicine with money as a contributing motivator.

How would across the board socialized medicine be helpful? I doubt it would believe that if we had universal socialized ....
There are some people who are even more against socialized medicine after and roses.
And eventually fatal disease.

I am graduating in May 2012 and am looking for a position in emergency medicine as a new graduate. I have an elective 4 week rotation to choose and I am not allowed to repeat emergency medicine as it was a "core" elective. Pediatric emergency medicine...

Peds Emergency Medicine would be perfect as an elective practice, we managed a lot crashing medicine patients, learned a lot about pressors, etc.
Rotation? They consult in the ER all the time.

So, I'm in a rural medicine program at my school, and we have to do a 16 week rural family med rotation in our M4 year and do a community-oriented project while we're on rotation. I'm not going to end up in FM, but I do love the program.
