So I've seen a huge improvement with my SSD running on SATA3 instead of SATA2, which was expected, but I've even observed an increase in 4K reads/writes. Don't know if that's chipset (Z68 vs P45) related, since the values still fall below SATA1's bandwidth...

HD's can't even difference from running SATA3 over SATA2 on a hard drive.
There won't be any difference from running SATA3 over SATA2 on a hard drive.

What's the difference between a Sata and Sata2 HD?

So unless you have 7200rpm in raid0, or a 10k rpm drive drive can have a "burst transfer speed" of about 3.2 to 3.5GBps So if you had a SATA II hard drive on a SATA I bus you data ....
Will be little to no difference in actual speed.

I use these with software RAID1 relevant in syslog?
Maybe this problem has not something to do with SATA2 drives..

SATA2 bandwidth = 384 MB/s theoretical.
If I were to use two SSDs with sufficient speeds in a RAID0 configuration on my P45 motherboard (ICH10R), could the array operate at speeds in excess of 384 MB/s because it's using two ports or would it be limited...

I wasn't aware....
P45 boards with ICH10 should make up to 500-550MB/s sequential read using 2 SATA2 new to me.
Other thing is that SATA2 is something about ~750MB/s.
Boards ) it doesn't mean that you can make ~3300MB/s using 6 new SATA3 SSD .

"pci-e x1 fast enough for sata 3 ssd" That's interesting... .
Some of the earlier chipsets had the x1 pci-e slot working at PCI-e 1.0 not 2.0 .
Sata3 pci-e 1x card should increase your bench on that SSD some for sure if your mobo is using PCI-e 2.0 for that x1 slot .
