If you don't have any MSDN, TechNet or similar subscription I don't think there is any possible way for you to download MS software legally.
And download a version from there and using your serial key.

The microsoft support page just says to enable automatic updates, but I've got broadband and my friend who's machine I'm repairing has a very slow connection.
Can I download it here and take over an exe or something on a thumb drive?

Have tried on numerous occasions and it will not install this update and have looked for the code but cannot find it otherwise machine running fine.
