The dd commandSince you have bad performance when using dd , most probably you have those advanced format drives.
Samsung drives that I might do the same to and see if the performance increases.

That the 2TB F4s with Seagate labels are still using Samsung....
Seagate now owns them, and has been repackaging their drives using the Samsung label and model numbers.
Samsung no longer makes hard drives.
Really made it.

It's going to depend on the workload.
I'm by no matters expert on disk drive physics, but I see disproportionally many hard drives fail: let them spin forever.
