I've improved clay, and tilled clay/shale, and terraced hillsides. And got good crops in all those places after improving the soil. Now, I live a mile from the Atlantic ocean and our soil... if you wanna...

Personally, I've never even amount of sand.
To the ocean, I also have to wonder what the salt content of your soil/sand is.

Very disappointed with the information given to me from Newcomb Sand and Soil. I called ahead to make sure they had the product I wanted in stock. I was told they did and was given a price. When I got there they didn't have any at all. Frustrating!

Sand would also not be the most advisable of growing mediums.
