Actually my Savage mk2 tube fed bolt action is pretty accurateI recently made a similar choice in a 22WMR rifle.

I went to my favorite....
I just used a big screwdriver and forced the screws into place .
6-48 is pretty standard.
If I recall, it was a Weaver #46.
I don't know the pitch, but the screws that came with my Weaver base fit perfectly .
