I'm using Windows 7. I have a Brother DCP-7040 scanner and printer, with Brother's ControlCenter3 software installed. I also have Picasa 3.5 installed.

Also, click start then look at "Devices and printers", see if you chosen Toolbox for all ....
Scan Properties -> Events -> Select the button events and select the application you want (I've where you can configure the button.

Every time I insert the SD card from my camera into the card reader, I get this dialog:

As joshhunt said, do the scan once and you shouldn't see it again (for a while at least) set it for quick removal.

Can right click the partition you want to scan,select properties,then tools,the click on "check now" button,that'll check you disk for errors
Windows 7 will have a UI returning, but not graphical.

Sometimes when opening projects, NetBeans will display a "Task scanning" progress bar on the status bar. What exactly is it scanning for? Is it possible to turn it off as I noticed that sometimes it takes a while and maybe it's just my installation but...

I'm working on a project that needs to emulate a keypress of the Windows key. I've tried SendKeys.Send to no avail.
Specifically, the windows key needs to come in concert with a button. That is, I want to send Windows Key and plus / minus.

I do not believe SendKeys....
Try SendInput or the older keybd_event I think your best bet is using keybd_event keydown (called ExtendedKey) with the LWin value of the System.Windows.Forms.Keys enum, then keydown second character (+), and keyup both keys .

It is kind of hard to say what it is reading from .
It has access to almost everything your browser does including temp folder, cookies and active window(s) .
It is a toolbar and therefor an executing part of your browser .
