Over the course of my observations of science-minded people and actual scientists over the years, I have noticed an extreme level of belligerency towards the realm of science fiction, as well as a large bias against it, especially so among actual scientists...

Yeah, it's not Time of the Great Freeze.....
Also possible is Robert Silverberg's novel Time of the Great Freeze, though that one is more glaciers than snow .
The set-up sounds like Fritz Lieber's terrific "A Pail of Air," , but that's a story, not a book .
I'd appreciate any suggestions for fantasy/science fiction books for a 20-year-old guy--I'm way out of my league. Thanks.

Sci-fi (it's technically science fiction, but it doesn't really have any of the sci-fi cliches you'd science fiction and sci-fi? Most of the films listed so far are sci-fi bordering on fantasy (some cross that border completely....

Fantasy for me, too, although I do read some science fiction from time to time SF.
I am just now starting to read some Science Fiction, but I still prefer Fantasy.
